India is getting smarter and with the introduction of electronic or e-way bill system for inter-state movement of goods last Sunday, all transporters and businesses that involve transport of goods from one state to another, across the country, have to produce e-way bill before a Goods and Service Tax (GST) inspector for carrying goods worth over Rs 50,000, reported the Times of India recently.
The e-way bill system, a smart IT application, created by Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) that has been operational in Karnataka since last September, not only brought transparency to the system but has also acted as a measure to prevent evasion of paying bills.
