Furnishings That Automate Your Home

Smart furniture is the next big thing in home automation. Many international furniture brands like Ikea now offer an interesting range of smart products such as tables with wireless charging pads, multimedia beds, alarm embedded bedsheets and many more

Recently, the world’s largest furniture retailer, Ikea, launched its smart furniture range. And, suddenly, the world around me started to seem different. I couldn’t stop marvelling at the fact that my table will now charge my phone wirelessly with built-in charging spots.

“With the advent of smart technologies, it all just seems to be coming together for me. I am a software engineer. For the last two years, I have been questioning the logic behind the pile of smart devices in our house. And then I learnt about smart furniture and how it can help me to complete my routine chores more easily and at a much faster pace. Now I
focus on making my home smart rather than having a smart home. Not just a smart shower, even a smart hair-brush makes so much sense for me,” says Megha.

She adds, “Since I live in a small apartment, each space is utilised for multiple purposes. My dining table is often my work table as well. I have already installed smart lights in that area. Now that Ikea is launching products in India, I look forward to buying their table lamps and table for they’ll help me charge my phone and laptop much easily and wirelessly.”

Ikea, in its humble attempt, is refining technology for use by all. Reading about smart gadgets online is just one side of the coin, discovering it in person is a completely new experience. Wireless chargers and pads in Ikea’s furniture have been integrated by technology firm Qi. According to the company, virtual voice assistants like Alexa by Amazon, Siri by Apple and Google Assistant will play a bigger role in people’s lives in the future. It is trying to integrate its smart offerings with not just one but all of these solutions as it wants to cater to a wider set of audience.

Not just Ikea, Faoma too has an exclusive range of tech-automated furniture, both for commercial and personal usage in luxury segment. Its signature product, automated pilasters have a secret code access, which makes them perfect for storage.

Italy’s Ozzio, on the other hand, has created a table that you can turn from a regular coffee table to a glamourous, upbeat dining table at the click of a button.

The main attraction, however, is the state-of-the-art theatre and sound system installed in the bed. The bed also has a built-in PC and a complete gaming and entertainment solution.
